1000/762: 22 March 2012: Night-time Maryport

Taken by the simple expedient of pre-focussing the camera and holding it facing forward with my arm down by my side. Then press the shutter as something seems likely to be in view. It's mightily unpredictable, but interesting when it works.

1000/761: 21 March 2012: Wing mirror reflections

Once again the weird mix of lighting caught my attention, with the anti-glare coating on the mirror making the reflection a lot more blue than the background itself.

1000/760: 20 March 2012: Bulbs

Left it a bit late today - this was the first thing I saw. Apologies all round - normal service will be resumed tomorrow

1000/759: 19 March 2012: Callanish - a favourite novel

Recovered this from No1 daughters bookshelf so decided to read it again. It's about the meaning of imprisonment and freedom. If you don't like anthropomorphism or new-age mysticism it wont be for you - but it's one of my favourites.

1000/758: 18 March 2012: A Grand Day Out

Mothers Day and No.1 daughter's birthday in close proximity - all the excuse we needed for a family get together. Nice Sunday lunch then a stroll on the beach at St Bees. Splendid!

1000/757: 17 March 2012: Lonely Hoodie

According to some, dressing like this automatically makes me a delinquent of some description - which would be laughable if it weren't so sad.

1000/756: 16 March 2012: Digitising my vinyl

I ave around 200 genuine vinyl LPs and around 300 cassettes that I never listen to any more - which is a crying shame - so the time has come to digitise them. As you can probably guess - there is a fair bit of prog rock to listen to between now and the end of the task.

1000/755: 15 March 2012: The Crown Inn, Maryport

Was out prowling the streets of Maryport when I suddenly noticed all these colours. Can't think why I haven't spotted them before.

1000/754: 14 March 2012: Co-op car park - again

Still practising my dark and mysterious look. The fancy effect on the light is because I forgot to clean my lens.

1000/753: 13 March 2012: A pair of CCTVs on their nest

Am now well behind on posting, although fortunately up to date on shooting. This pair of cameras are seen here in their natural habitat, a hotel car park. The young can often be found clinging to policeman helmets. The collective noun is 'an intrusion'.

1000/752: 12 March 2012: Expense Account Living

Luxury it isn't - but sometimes you just need to get out of the hotel and do something different. Three cheers for Colonel Sanders.

1000/751: 11 March 2012: Allonby Street View

Street View by nmonckton
Street View, a photo by nmonckton on Flickr.

Was looking for a way to capture the rather claustrophobic streets in Allonby, and at the same time give a feel for the heritage that oozes from the village proper. Not sure this angle fully achieves that - some more detail in the sky would have helped - as would the absence of motor vehicles, but I'm reasonably pleased with the outcome.

1000/750: 10 March 2012: In the headlights

Country lanes look a bit less pretty and inviting at night, and car headlights always at that mystery movie feel.

1000/749: 09 March 2012: Eclectic tastes

It occurred to me that our music collection has not featured to date, so I'm putting that right. No-one can say we don't have broad tastes.

1000/748: 08 March 2012: Tarmac shadows

A bit like 746 - I was attracted by the interplay between the light, the shadows and surface detail.

1000/747: 07 March 2012: Slippers

Definitely a bit short on inspiration of late. These were the best I could come up with.

1000/746: 06 March 2012: Paving stones

A bit self-consciously arty perhaps? I was struck by the interplay between the light and the regular geometric pattern of the paving stones.

1000/745: 05 March 2012: View from a room

Lucky escape tonight - fell asleep on the bed before taking the photo. If Marion hadn't rung after getting back from somewhere I'd have missed altogether.
Has turned out reasonably well considering I was still half asleep

1000/744: 04 March 2012: A blue-nosed friend

Don't know where this little guy came from - all I know is he seems quite contented sitting by the fish tank.

1000/743: 03 March 2012: Allergy relief

Getting behind on my posting - so using some time in the hotel to catch up. Hoorah for free broadband!
Not much to say or see here - some fly bite cream that was sitting on the top

1000/742: 02 Mar 2012: Happy Birthday Naomi

Now feeling old - youngest daughter is 17 today. Got back from business trip in time for the birthday tea - the highlight of which was this massive collection of cup-cakes - courtesy of eldest daughter..

Rather liked the ghostly effect that the candlelight has produced in this shot - the last vestiges of childhood slowly fading into the background perhaps?

1000/741: 01 March 2012: Conference time

It's the Company's annual Innovation's scheme conference, and I'm the 'official' photographer -eeek!. This is a test shot just to check a couple of camera positions and to get a feel for the exposures etc. The white sheet is for the videographers to set their white balance.

1000/740: 29 Feb 2012: Near Cardiff

Away on business near Cardiff for a couple of days - The Vale resort - which seems very pleasant indeed..
I've been looking for some street lit trees to try this effect on for a while - without much luck - but this silver birch catch the street light quite nicely.

1000/739: 28 Feb 2012: Maryport by night

Thought I'd try my hand at some black and whites in Maryport this evening. This was the most effective.
