The Common Cormorant (or Shag): WBW

2005-01-29 12-07-23.jpg

The common cormorant or shag
Lays eggs inside a paper bag.
The reason you will see, no doubt,
It is to keep the lightning out.
But what these unobservant birds
Have never noticed is that herds
Of wandering bears may come with buns
And steal the bags to hold the crumbs.

All of which is complete nonsense of course – including the confusion of cormorant and shag!

If you enjoyed this photo there are plenty more great bird shots at Wild Bird Wednesday

Nice image and great poem. Of course, I'm an expert in nonsense, according to my wife.......

Haha! There's a fine line between poetry and doggerel ... I'm sadly far more familiar with the latter!!!

What a fine verse!

I think (and as you know well, I'm no expert) its a shag. Looks to have too fine a beak for a cormorant.

Hope all is well and that your feet are dry!

Cheers SM
